Can you believe it’s already October? This is one of my favorite months because it’s always filled with fun activities! This weekend I went thrift store shopping on Saturday and to a family reunion on Sunday. I thought I’d share some of my thrift store finds and local activities for the month of October.

Thrift Store Finds
My Saturday started out with breakfast at the local Denny’s, since my parents were my thrify cohorts for the day. In my neck of the woods, the first Saturday of the month is the best time for thrifty finds. Local thrift stores have “sales” and there’s a yard sale around every corner. Our first stop of the day was at a little thrift store at the end of 5th street. I apologize because I cannot remember the name of it! It’s only opened on the first Saturday of the month, but they usually have a wide variety of items to choose from. This is where I got my cheese grater for my Simple Fall Wall Decor post. Here’s what I found this time:
2 matching jello tins for $1 each. I really love the pinkish color these have and they are excellent for kitchen decor!
I love to collect wooden trays a bowls because they are really timeless pieces for decor. This set me back a whole 25 cents!
Our next stop was Time & Tide – A Collective. This is not a thrift store, but they sell antiques, flowers furniture, and food! It’s a great little shop that’s new to our historic downtown area and it’s located in the Historic Crisp Theater. I found this great miniature sad iron for $15 that I just had to have!
The last stop of the day was the local Habitat for Humanity. This place was packed but I found some really great items! The first is an old crochet blocker complete with peg storage in the end. One peg is missing, but it should be easy to replace. This is about the 3rd one I’ve found at Habitat, but it’s the nicest and for a $1 I couldn’t resist!
This shelving unit only cost me $7! The fabric is removable, so I can give it a good washing. I’m thinking yarn storage!
My last find might be a little strange at first. I got these old window screens in different sizes for 50 cents each.
What am I going to do with them? Make paper! Yes, I use old junk mail and such to make paper! I used this technique to make the backing to my wedding invitations.

Local Activities
Isn’t this a great looking room? This is at Cordele Main Street and it’s right beside the Sam Shortline stop in Cordele, GA. I never knew it existed until this weekend! It’s an amazing place filled with historic items and information about Cordele. There is a whole movement to revitalize the older part of Cordele, which I think is wonderful. There is some awesome architecture in this area that I feel needs to be preserved. If you’re a local or just visiting, you should definitely check it out!

10/8/2016 ~ 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. {{100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yardsale } } This runs along Highway 41 from Unadilla to Quitman and comes right through Cordele. I found some great items at this last year and I’m looking forward to this year!

10/21, 10/22, 10/23, 10/29, & 10/30 ~ { { Thomas the Tank Engine } } Thomas the Tank Engine returns to the Cordele Sam’s Shortline!
10/17, 10/18, 10/24, 10/25, 10/30, 10/31 ~ { { Crisp Days of Fall } } Georgia Veterans State Park is hosting many fall activities throughout the month including hayrides, a scarecrow strut, and a haunted trail (only for the brave!)
10/22/2016 ~ 9 a.m. to 12 noon { { Pink Walk to Fight Breast Cancer } } This is a 1.5 mile walk that starts at the Community Clubhouse. It’s $20 to sign up and you get a t-shirt and ribbon. Call 229-271-1900 to register. My mother is a 14 year breast cancer survivor, so I plan on attending this event!
10/25 to 10/29/2016 ~ { { Lion’s Club Fair } } Who doesn’t love a fair? Funnel cake here I come!
10/28/2016 ~ 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. { { Downtown Spooktacular } } Candy and fun for the kiddos!
10/31/2016 ~ 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. { { Trick or Treat Cordele } } Take the kids out for some trick or treat fun! Remember to wear reflective clothing and be safe!
