2020 Maker Stash Down – August Goals

It’s time to make August goals! Wow – was April really the last time I did a post for this?!? I really thought I had only missed maybe 2 months. Life has been a little crazy lately, as I’m sure it has been for all of us. I’m happy to be back at it & hope to keep that maker momentum going for the rest of the year! Let’s dig in & take a peak at what I’ve been doing in July!

Maker Stash Down

For the Maker Stash Down the main goal is simple – make from your stashes. There won’t be monthly challenges this year, more like monthly motivation. I’ll do a monthly blog post here on the blog telling y’all what my goals are, how I’m progressing, & sharing all my makes. Y’all will be able to share your progress in the Facebook group. It will still be a fun place to share makes & encourage each other’s progress. 🙂

Check out the links below to see my previous goals ~>

July’s Makes

I did set maker goals in July, but neglected to share them in the group. Mostly because my internet has barely worked for over a month now. It’s really frustrating as I not only run a business online, I’ve been trying to teach online through it as well. It’s kinda working now, but continues to drop out about every 5 minutes or so which makes it very difficult to get things done. My internet provider has only been out here about 4 or 5 times now & the problem still persists. I’m currently doing what I can to work around it because I really miss my crafty peeps!

Okay, enough about that! Onto the crafty goodness!

I’m going to divide this up into FOs {finished objects} & WIPs {works in progress}. Then I’ll list my goals & new projects for August in the next section. This will coordinate with the monthly podcast on my YouTube channel. So, if you whether you just want to look a pretty pictures or listen to me do a crafty ramble, I’ve got you covered! : D

Yarny FOs

I have a hanging shoe rack filled with random skeins of sock yarn that you can see in my videos. One weekend, I wound them all into cakes & decided to use them up by the end of the year. Here’s my first finished object with some of that yarn!

Love Lace Shawl, pattern by Mary Riddle for Darn Good Yarn
Yarn used: Dragon Hoard Yarn in Valkyrie & Malabrigo Sock Yarn in 870 Candombe

My next FO is a pattern from the Scrubbie Crochet Along over at the Underground Crafter. I like the pattern so much, I made 9 of them! This gives me a head start on my Christmas gifts. : )

Ring-Around Crocheted Scrubbie from 5 Little Monsters
Yarn Used: Knit Picks Comfy Sport in Carrot & Flamingo {NLA}

I also whipped up some scrubby dishcloths for the kitchen. For these, I used the lemon peel stitch & just made them the size I needed. There was enough left over for a mini, which doubles as a coaster!

DIY FOs

I made soap! This was a DIY kit I got a long time ago & I had recorded a video of me making it. Sadly, that video has mysteriously vanished! I used the orange essential oil instead of the lavender because I get a headache every time I smell lavender.

Detox Project Box – linking to their Facebook page as the website seems to be dead!

I’ve been trying out all the different clubs from Annie’s & this card making kit was really fun to do. Look for a video review/make-along coming up on Thursday!

Annie’s CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month Club

I also made these “Positivi-tea” cards that I’ll be sending out to some crafty friends!

The next two makes are from another Annie’s club. There’s a review/make-along video coming up next Thursday for the magnets below.

Annie’s Creative Woman Kit-of-the-Month Club

This little bird house was the first kit I got with the Creative Woman Club. I’ll have a blog post coming out next Thursday all about making it.

Sewing FO Flop!

The only sewing sorta, kinda FO are these hideous leggings! I was going to use the paint blotch fabric for the “leg” part & the gingham fabric for the banding. There wasn’t enough fabric for that, so I decided to do one leg in each fabric…

Laura Knit Leggings from Style Arc – Fabric from Fabric Mart

Not very appealing this way! I’m going to use them as a muslin for future same-color-leg, leggings, ha ha! Then I’ll re-purpose the fabric for something a little less clownish. : )

Yarny WIPs

This one was almost an FO with just one row left…

Holey Smokes Shawl by Zeens & Roger, yarns used:
Crystalskye’s Hand Dyed in Hogwarts Halloween {speckled purple & solid green} &
Show Reel Studios in Pantanal {yellow-green speckled}

I’m playing yarn chicken though, so we shall see how it ends up!

My next WIP is this cute, quirky little caterpillar! I have many patterns from this Etsy shop & I can’t wait to make them all. : )

Caterpillar Pattern by Crafty Intentions
Yarn used: Show Reel Studios in Nacho Mama & Salsa

I just have 4 more squares to make for this next WIP. Then I can block them & stitch them together. Loving the colors!

Dahlia Crochet Granny Square Blanket from Make & Do Crew; Centers:
Lion Brand Hometown USA in Washington Denim, Fayettville Frost, & Portsmouth Pumpkin; Outer yarn: Red Heart Comfort in Moss Fleck, Latte Fleck, & Teal Fleck

This WIP is a C2C scarf pattern I’m making up to use up some lace-weight yarns. I combined ombre colored yarn with bare & beaded yarns to make it more of a DK weight.

Darn Good Yarn: Ombre Recycled Silk Yarn in Purple, Orange, & Green
combined with Undyed Yarn & Beaded Yarn in Cream

It’s going to be very long!

Sewing WIPs

I’ve been on a mission to bust through some of my fashion fabric stash! These are all cut up & just need to be sewn together.

Cocoon Jacket pattern by
Knit fabric from Fabric Mart
Kimono Jacket pattern from Sew Caroline
Cotton/silk fabric from Fabric Mart
McCall’s M5337 pattern – Butterfly fabric from Mood Fabrics, Polka Dot from stash

No DIY WIPs, but plenty coming this month!

August Goals & Projects

It’s ironic that in April when everything shut down I thought I was going to get so much making done! Online teaching is way more work than teaching in person & I’ll be glad when we get back to the classroom. Anyway, here’s what’s coming up in August:

I would really like to knit my first hat. Amazon lost the DPNs I ordered, so I need to order them again – bleh! Be sure to check out Willie’s YouTube channel too!

Boss Beanie Knit Kit by Willie Smith for Darn Good Yarn

I’ve made one pair of these & I really like them. Time to get the other 2 pair done!

Darn Good Yarn Sock of the Month Club {NLA}

I just need to film me weaving in the ends for this basket, then I can edit & publish. : )

This was one of my favorite sweaters, but I’m tired of fixing holes in it. I’m going to “deconstruct” it & reuse the yarn. Look for a video/blog post in the near future!

I ordered jewelry making kits from 3 different places to compare them. There are a bunch of them lying around that I need to make! You can see my review of all the clubs here.

Mary Maxim Jewelry Kit of the Month Club
Beads Monthly Kit from Darn Good Yarn

I’m going to make paper with all this shredded craft paper!

I’d also like to bust through these almost finished WIPs hanging on my rack!

Plus, there’s always bags to make for the shop! : )

Whew! That was A LOT to get through! It has been awhile, so there was much to talk about. Here’s the YouTube video talking about all the above if you want to hear my southern drawl. : D

How to Participate in the Maker Stash Down

For the Maker Stash Down, it’s more about making goals & meeting those goals. Goals related to creative endeavors, of course! For example ~>

  • I set some goals above for the month, which I will share in the group.
  • I’ll share my progress on my goals throughout the month in the group, with a recap at the end of the month here on the blog.

It’s really that simple! Join the Facebook group, share your goals, share your progress on your goals, & be entered to win a $20 Amazon gift card.

I don’t want anyone to feel intimidated by this. Your goals are your goals, it’s not a competition. It’s about being in a space that you can feel encouraged to flex your maker muscles! Setting goals is the first step in motivating your maker mojo. It gets those creative juices flowing!

Now, this is a stash down, so you are encouraged to work from your stash of supplies. I realize not everyone has a large maker stash to work from & I don’t want to leave anyone out. That’s why I’ve based it on creative goals & not just decreasing the stash. 🙂

Happy making y’all!
