I love an advent calendar! They come in all sorts of boxes and some are great for repurposing. This is the first of two I’ll be repurposing, both are from Arteza. Hope y’all enjoy this advent calendar repurpose!
As I mentioned above, this advent calendar came from Arteza, circa 2023. It had the punch-open doors on the front which I have already removed. Originally I was going to try to utilize the compartments, but I was inspired by the flattened penny hot air balloons I was seeing on Pinterest.
So, I cleaned out the whole box! I really love the hexagon shape of it and it will be a perfect place to display my flattened penny collection.
Next, I painted a sky scene in the background with the Arteza paints that came in the advent.
I wanted to cover the sides in scrapbook paper, so I picked out some that had travel type themes. It was also time to gather my flattened penny collection to see how it would fit.
I folded the paper over the top a bit to cover the rough edges and glued it down with Scotch clear glue. The sponge tip on the two way applicator is perfect for a project like this.
For the house, I decided to use fabric and batting and quilt one. It’s just a triangle on a square and I quilted the doors and such with my sewing machine.
Putting It All Together
I laid everything out to see how I liked it before gluing it down. It did required e6000 to glue down the pennies and house.
Once everything was attached, I just drew in balloon strings with a black Sharpie. I wanted to leave some room to grow!
I also decided to add a quote I liked…
Now I have a fun way to display all those flattened pennies I collect! I did wind up adding a ribbon to the back so I could hang it up if I want to.
This was a fun little repurpose and I have another advent I’ll be repurposing in the future. This one opens like a book!
