Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop {and y’all too} to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month’s challenge is about Father’s Day, which is coming up next month. I chose something simple again – simple but delicious! This candied bacon is a favorite for pretty much anyone that eats it. : )

I’ve made this candied bacon before, but I still thought it would be the perfect thing for this month’s challenge. After perusing Pinterest for several hours, I just wasn’t seeing anything I liked. Then I remembered the pin from the Kitchen Joy blog for candied bacon. It’s always a hit with the guys at Christmas & most anyone that eats it!

Candied Bacon
The ingredients in the original post are fairly basic – dark brown sugar, cayenne, & cinnamon + bacon = deliciousness! I’m using brown sugar, cayenne, cinnamon, smoked paprika, & some brown sugar bourbon seasoning I had left over.
The cayenne pepper I’m using is home ground. This jar should be opened carefully & definitely in a non-windy area! That stuff is potent y’all!
The instructions in the recipe tell you to prep a pan with foil & a rack. I know from experience you don’t want to skip this part! I’m using a cookie cooling rack with the legs folded in for this.
Got all my sugar and spice {and everything nice} ready. Just couldn’t help myself with that one… : D
Bacon is prepped & ready for the oven! You have to cook it for a bit, then turn it over to do the other side.
Here’s what it looks like after cooking & before flipping…
And here it is all done & delicious!
Clean Up & Enjoy
As you can see, this makes quite a mess! Having that foil down really helps & I always make the sides higher. It helps with the splattering in the oven. I’ll turn the rack upside down in a pan for a good soak before washing it.
No matter how I do this, the sugar always starts burning in the bottom of the pan. I make sure to turn on my fan in my range hood while this is cooking to help with any smoke that occurs.
I never leave the bacon on the rack to cool because it will stick. Once it’s cooled a bit, I’ll put it on the backside of some freezer paper to finish cooling.
Y’all this stuff is hard to stop eating once you start! If you love sweet & salty together, this is the ultimate snack. Yum!
Good thing it’s not Father’s Day yet & I don’t have to give it all away, lol! You can wrap it in some wax paper & gift it with their favorite drink. Or just put it on a platter for snacking while watching TV. Either way, it won’t last long!
