Today I visited the local home improvement store looking for small storage solutions & picking up some supplies for upcoming projects. This store is almost as dangerous for me as the fabric store! I thought I’d share what I found to solve some storage issues I’m having in some areas. These are just small things but they can make a big difference sometimes! ; )

When I walk in the door of a home improvement store, it smells of wood & paint – or possibilities, if you live in my brain! I want to look at everything, which is dangerous because then I think of more things I can do & things start jumping in my buggy that I didn’t come to get. Anyone else have that problem?
The Non-Walk-In Closet
This first solution is so simple & totally not DIY glam at all! When my son moved out for college, he left behind some things that need to be stored until he gets his own place. The closet in his room is a walk-in closet, but it houses the water heater & the return for the A/C. There are brackets for rods & a shelf on each side of the closet, but one was missing the shelf. Since I remembered to measure it today, I finally bought a shelf to help store some stuff.
When I measured the area, I discovered my husband’s camping gear piled on top of everything else that was already in the way. I’m thinking I’m going to need more than one shelf to really solve this problem!
Holes in My Storage
I have two peg boards in my craft room & I bought a peg storage system to use with them a while back. The wire bins are great for storing larger items, but some things just slide right out the large gaps between the wires.
I found these mesh bins & new I had found the solution to my holy storage! These may have been around for awhile, but I had never seen them before.
When I was looking up peg board accessories, I came across a slat wall system. They’re a little pricey, but made to hold up heavier things. You see them in retail or garages mostly. It may be a good solution to my closet dilemma. Something to think about!
Paint Palooza!
I’ve been looking for a solution for storing my growing paint collection. It’s just outgrowing it’s space!
There’s more in a small drawer below too! When I saw this post from Sadie Seasongoods, I new I had found a solution! The drawers from my old dresser are perfect for this & today I bought some poplar slats to make the shelves with.
It makes me feel a wee bit better about buying some more paint at the store. My dog may disagree!
I wanted to try out the spray chalk paint & I needed more of my favorite color & purple is related to ultra violet {Pantone’s color of the year} & metallic paint – that’s a no brainer! Plus they have this really neat “craft paint” area in the store:
Who could really resist that?!? I also spotted these plastic trays for the pegboard when I was looking for accessories online. That’s giving me an idea for my spray paint! : D
My Sewing Corner
One thing I did not find in the store was a solution to my messy sewing table!
I have too many little bins for all the little things & it’s taking up too much of my sewing space! Plus I just got the big set of presser feet.
I decided to check online for some solutions. I wanted something with individual trays but easy to access & see my options. Most people use a divided craft container, which I already have. They’re okay but I need something slimmer & something that holds more. Then I found these tiny bead boxes ! {I may have squealed in delight ; )}
After measuring my presser feet, I discovered the little boxes should be perfect for the snap on feet. But what about the larger feet? They also have
The larger ones should hold my taller feet. I’m ordering the assorted storage tray to test it out & see how many boxes of each size I need. Then I can order more trays or individual boxes. So excited about this!
Well, that’s all the small storage solutions I have for y’all today. Have a wonderful Wednesday! : )
