We have experienced quite a cool down since Irma came through & it feels more like fall! It’s expected to warm back up by the end of the week, but I’m still preparing some fall porch decor in the hopes it will encourage the coolness to stay. ; ) My porch is in need of a cleaning, so the pictures are only of my little fall vignette. I will be posting pictures of the whole porch together eventually. I’ve also decided my buffalo plaid sign from last week needs a little more punch because it’s hard to see! That post will be updated soon!

This week had a bad start with a visit from Irma! Although it was at tropical storm status when it came through, winds were still between 30-50 miles per hour. This took out some tree limbs & knocked things about a bit on my front porch. I am very grateful that we had minimal damage! I can’t image what it must have been like for those experiencing hurricane force winds & hope everyone is safe now. Please take the time to help out if you can, even if it’s only lending a helping hand in the clean up.
Tomato Cages & Burlap
I started this project with a tomato cage & some burlap! Tractor Supply had tomato cages on clearance for 99 cents & I bought 10 of them for projects I’m planning. I got the burlap for $5 at last year’s 100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yardsale. That’s coming up again next month & I can’t wait!
I started out by wrapping the tomato cage with burlap & tying it at the top with yarn. It kind of resembled a sack of feed & I really liked that. Then I realized it needed something to sit in to keep it from blowing over. I grabbed the cheese box I made over in a previous project & an old cinnamon broom I had lying around. Ummmm……not exactly what I was going for!
That was not working for me! Then I remembered all the produce boxes I had on the porch that I haven’t dismantled yet. This one was perfect!
It already had a neat stamp on the front & just needed brushing off. Although I don’t recall buying a box of peanuts…
I “borrowed” the wheat, feathers, & fall pics from my simple fall wall decor project last year. Then I added a green wired ribbon to the top to cover the yarn. Looking better!
I just held the wheat & such together with a rubber band & twist tie, since you can’t see the bottom.
This was looking more like what I had envisioned, but it needed a little something to fill it in more. I went outside in search of some cool branches, but found some cool boards instead!
Harvest Sign
This board was once part of a raised garden bed. It’s a cedar board & it’s got some nice coloring going on from being outside in the weather. I went over it with the sander to knock off some of the roughness.
It came back inside with me & I did a dry brush over it with some teal chalk paint. Since I didn’t have a stencil, I used some large chipboard letters to spell the word “harvest” down the front of the board.
I laid them out down the board & traced around the edges with a pencil.
My original intent was to paint the letters black, but I’m all out of black paint! Seems like I would have thought of that when I bought paint last month – nope! Somehow pink & purple made it into the buggy & black got left behind. ; p
I decided to use some barn red acrylic paint, since I have an abundance of it. This is because I painted a TON of Christmas ornaments for my tree one year. I like the way it looks with the teal color!
By the way, the “utensil caddy” I made last year works much better as a “paintbrush caddy”! I have no need to tote around utensils most days because I’m a finger food snacker. : )
Finished Display
I sat this up in several places to try to get a good picture. Once I find some extra time somewhere, I’ll clean up the porch, so I can have a picture of “fall porch decor” on the actual porch! The first picture is in my living room & yes, that’s subflooring. It’s a work-in-progress y’all!
This picture is against the crepe myrtle tree in my front yard. It’s leaning a little because it’s sitting on a dirt hump!
The last one is in front of my pile of old bricks destined to be a pathway. So many projects, so little time!
I hope y’all enjoyed my fall porch decor that’s not on a porch! Maybe it was, at least, inspiring. ; )
Pin it for later!
