Gift Ideas for the Maker Mom

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th y’all! I thought it would be fun to share some gift ideas for the maker mom – the mom that likes to makes stuff. Yes, I am a maker mom! Forget all the flowers & dinners, I want things related to making. I’m sure there are other mom’s out there like me, so I’ve rounded up some gift ideas for all the kiddos shopping for a maker mom. Hopefully you’ll find great gift ideas no matter what your mom likes to make!

Gift Picking Tips

Some people seem to have a hard time picking out gifts for me. I’m not really sure why that is, maybe I’m just weird! I’m usually pretty good at picking out gifts for others, so I thought I’d share my thought process when deciding what to buy. These are some questions I ask myself when deciding on a gift:

• What are the person’s interests at the time?
• What kinds of things does the person talk about all the time?
• Does this person have something they really need, but won’t buy for themselves?

Most of the time, if you’re buying a gift for someone, you see or talk to them on a regular basis. Paying attention to what’s going on in their life is not only shows you care, it makes gift giving time a little easier! Making sure you’re aware of their relevant likes is very important, which I found out this past Christmas. I was looking for stocking stuffers for my son & spotted some figures & socks from a PC game I remembered him talking about. Unfortunately, he hadn’t played the game in quite some time & was no longer interested in it. Whoops!

This list is based on things I would like to receive & things that I think other makers might like. Lucky for me, I can just forward a link to this post to my son, so he has plenty of ideas. No shame here! : D  When I do these types of posts, I usually find way too many things I like, so I’ve included a link to a general search for the category as well. The DIYer

Most people think of a DIYer as someone that likes to do their own home improvements. Since I’m a DIYer, I have to say that is true, but mostly I just like to make stuff!

This birdie multi tool is so cool! You can even have it personalized with you’re own message.

Y’all, I have a thing for all things minis! When I saw this DIY mini tailor’s room, I may have squealed in delight! They have all kinds of different rooms & it would be a great gift for someone that likes to put things together.

How about a key chain that expresses their love of making?

Fiber Lover

Since I crochet, most of these are crochet related. I have included some that are for any fiber lover!

I love the patterns from this shop already, but a crochet kit with all the things I need to make this set would be a welcomed gift!

As a crocheter & coffee drinker, this is the perfect coffee mug for me!

These art fiber bundles look like a lot of fun! So many possibilities & there’s others to choose from!  : D

Fabric Lover

Fabric would be an obvious choice for this category, but there are some other options. Of course, I don’t know many fabric lovers that would turn down more fabric!  ; )

These pretty pins would be great to display in a sewing room. Yes, they can be used as well, but it’s not required!

This seam ripper pin is something I probably need to wear as a warning whenever I’m sewing!

Well, I couldn’t have a fabric lover gift list without some fabric on it could I? This “sewing lover” fabric  would be a nice addition to any fabric lovers collection!

Gardener

Maybe you don’t consider a gardener a maker, but I sure do! Making stuff grow is not easy y’all! ; D

This little terrarium kit is a great way to bring plants inside. It comes with everything you need to set it up.

Make sure everyone knows whose tools are whose with these personalized gardening tools. Maybe I need to do this for all my tools…

General Crafter

This category is really a catch all for things that don’t necessarily fit in the ones above.

Y’all I really, really, really need this glue gun holder! I’m always trying to figure out where to put the glue gun while it’s in use. Such a clever idea!

If you know a jewelry maker, this vintage glass bead chain kit may be a perfect gift! These are some awesome beads!

Is washi tape a weird thing to put on a gift list? Not if you like paper crafts or journaling! This little shop has all kinds of need washi tape & paper crafting products. You could make a maker basket!  : D
