I’ve been trying out the different clubs over at Annie’s for the past few months. The Creative Woman Kit-of-the-Month Club has become one of my favorites! There’s a different craft to do each month with a variety of different materials. The birdhouse in this post is the first kit you receive when joining the club. I also did a video of me making the second kit I got & it will be linked at the bottom of the post.

Making a Birdhouse

I was excited to see such a cute birdhouse for the first kit. It even has a tiny birdhouse to go on the front – how neat! You get just about everything you need to build the birdhouse cottage with the kit. The extras I needed included a hammer & glue. Things most crafters have in their toolboxes anyway! : )

The first thing I did was sand the edges of the wood pieces with the included piece of sandpaper. That was just to knock off any rough edges, nothing too strenuous. Next I traced the windows and door to mark their location.

I marked these with a pencil, but then it tells you to paint all the pieces with the white paint. You may want to use something darker so the outline is easier to see after painting. I was able to put 2 coats on with the paint provided & it dried fairly quickly.

After the paint was dry, it was time to assemble the main parts. My hammering skills might be a bit rusty…

Yeah, that’s a little crooked…..and that might be a nail showing…ahem.

My hammer left some marks on the roof for some reason. Luckily these get covered up with shingles!

Still need to work on those hammering skills!

I’m using this clear glue {shown in this blurry photograph} to build the door trellis & attach the decorations. This was leftover from a kit my husband bought to put guards on his boot toes & it’s comparable to e6000 glue.

There’s even giant flowers in the window boxes!

It’s a little higgledy-piggledy, but who really needs a perfectly straight house anyway? Check out my video below to see me make the second kit & get a peak at the 3rd kit I got.

If you like bird houses, check out this bird feeder I built out of a recycled pan, old jewelry box stand, & a tree limb.

Final Notes

I really enjoyed building this birdhouse! With paint & glue drying times, it took a couple of hours to build. I found the instructions to be thorough & not confusing. If anything, I’m wondering how well this would hold up outside. I think I would go over it a couple times with some protective clear coat before using it outside. It would also make a nice addition to some spring decor inside. All-in-all I think this kit is a good price for everything that’s included.

The club is $19.95 per month plus shipping. You can click the image below to get your first kit for 50% off, which is $9.99 plus shipping.

Hope y’all enjoyed the post! Have a great weekend!

  1. The birdhouse is so cute. We have so many different kinds of birds here in AZ. I may have to join and make the goldfinches a little house. Thanks for sharing.
