I decided at the beginning of the year I wouldn’t buy any new clothes this year. My intention was to make at least one garment a month. That didn’t happen. Then, I told myself I would work on it when school got out. I would have the whole summer! That didn’t happen. Now, it’s only 2 weeks until school starts back! I decided to do some quick refashions of items I had hanging around just so I would have something new for the start of the school year. We’ll see how it goes from there!
Shirt Refashion
Here’s my first refashion – a shirt I’ve had for ages and couldn’t let go!
I loved the detail at the arm when I bought this shirt. As time has gone on, I have worn it less and less. The only reason it’s hanging around is because of the fabric! I decided to add some chiffon-type fabric to fill in the “hole” in the sleeves.
First, I stretched the sleeves over the end of my ironing board and placed a piece of pattern paper underneath it.
I just traced the opening with a sharpie marker and used my Dritz see thru ruler to add 1/2″ seam.
Once I cut my fabric, I clipped it to the little strap and sewed it down.
I only tucked under the seam at the front edge of the sleeve. I wasn’t too worried about the fabric fraying further in the sleeve.
Since this shirt was a little snug around the middle and over my hips, I decided to add a panel of the same fabric to the back.
When I added the back panel it widened the neck opening a little too much for me. I just added a pleat at the front and voila!
So what do you think? Here it is in a complete outfit. The jacket will have to wait until it gets cooler!
That’s all for today! Ya’ll have a fabulous Friday and go get creative!
Oh, how do you like the website makeover? I think I’m almost done tweaking it!
hello
I love this, I have a few items I love and cant wear, well because with old age you get wider, well I do. I am so trying this out. Thank you. You look wonderful in that top.
Aww, thanks Guida! I think we all get some extra to love as we age! 😉
