Today I decided to tackle one of my quilting UFOs, or unfinished object for those that don’t know. This started with blocks from a quilt along circa 2017 & ended with me including blocks from a QAL circa 2017. They both had a similar theme that involved stars so it was meant to be!
The first set of blocks I started with came from the Stars in the Night QAL from Quilt Addicts Anonymous. I didn’t complete all of the blocks, so I laid out a plan to utilize them in a different way.
Basically my letter blocks would be cut from filler fabric & the numbers are the blocks below.
I had already made up some extra blocks using my leftover batiks & I decided to include the star ornament I designed for the 2017 Merry Christmas Sew-Along here on the blog. I’d sewn some of these together back in August and started assembling it on my hallway wall. I had to take it down to work on another quilt, so today I started putting it back up…
These pictures will mostly be at a weird angle because my hallway is about 4′ wide or so! I gathered all the tools I would need – blocks, ruler, painter’s tape, pincushion, & the plan.
Once I had all the pieces up that were cut and/or assembled, I had some holes to fill. Then I remembered the blocks from another QAL I’d started in 2018.
These blocks were part of the Starry Bright Sky QAL from Alida (TweLoQ) Designs. She also had a side QAL going for textured blocks that I loved & wish I had completed! The sunshine in the bottom right is actually a mini quilt top from Sew Can She.
Most of these were just the right size for some missing parts!
A Quilty Jigsaw Puzzle
I thought these would fit in, but I was a little worried about the yellow. The only thing to do was add them in & see how it looked…
It really fit right in & gave some brightness to the quilt! There has been some rearranging & finagling going on, but it’s coming along…
I didn’t quite get the whole thing together today, so I’m just sharing more progress pics…
The top right is missing the most pieces…
I’m planning on filling in the solid pieces with quilting…
It’s really starting to come together!
I did manage to get the whole bottom row sewn up…
Here’s the other side…
After seeing the pictures I think I have more rearranging to do! It seems most of the yellow blocks are on the right. I’m really having fun playing with the arrangement. Look for the finished quilt top on Instagram! : )
