Time for the next post in my watch, listen, read series! This is where I share all the things I watch & listen to while creating. The reading is for when my hands need a rest! The official first day of fall is on September 22nd, but it still feels like the dead of summer here! So hot! Fall days are great for going on a walk & listening to an audio book or podcast. Maybe you could even have a movie or Netflix binge night snuggled under the blankets, eating popcorn. Can someone please tell South GA it’s almost fall so I can do these things??? Anyway, let’s check out my list for fall 2018!
I’m including my thoughts on things from my summer 2018 list. Each category will start with a recap of the summer list & then list new things for fall 2018.
Watch
This watch list includes things on Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube, & TV. I rarely go to a movie any more since my son went to college. He was my movie buddy!
Amazon Prime
You can find movies, TV shows, & original content on Amazon Prime.
Watched
- Lore based on Aaron Mahnke’s podcast ~> I watched this and listened to the podcast. This is basically just a visual for the podcast, so I guess it’s just depends on if you want to watch or just listen! The stories are interesting either way. : )
On My Watch List
- Wonder Wheel Amazon Prime original movie ~> Still on my watch list from last season because I haven’t watched it!
- Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan ~> This is based on one of the many series of books from author Tom Clancy. The star also played a character on The Office, so I’m eager to see him in a different role! Maybe one day I’ll even read the books. ; )
Past Favorites
- Eureka ~> All about a new sheriff in a new town realizing it’s not just a regular town. It’s a place where the government keeps all the geniuses & they are always causing chaos with their “inventions”. Loved this when it was on TV!
- House ~> A doctor who doesn’t like patients but loves to solve medical mysteries. This was always an interesting watch when it was on TV.
Netflix
This is a paid service you can get for as little as $7.99/month. I have the standard plan which allows watching the same movie/show on two screens at a time for $10.99/month. This means my son & I could watch a movie together even though he’s 3 hours away! : )
Watched
- NCIS ~> I’m completely caught up now & I don’t know if I’ll be watching anymore! Sometimes when a show is on as long as this one, they start losing some of the best characters & it’s just not the same.
- Disenchantment ~>This is a cartoon series {for ADULTS} by Matt Groening, one of the creators of The Simpsons. It’s all about a princess that’s a teenager & has no real interest in being a princess. It pokes fun at most fairy tale type movies. The characters definitely have a similar feel to The Simpsons characters.
- The Office ~> Ok, so I never watched The Office when it was on TV, but people talk about it all the time. There are so many memes on Facebook about it! I decided to check it out & it’s definitely a funny show. There are 9 seasons & I’m midway through season 5. Kinda got bored with it, so maybe I’ll eventually watch the rest!
On My Watch List
- The Imitation Game ~> Cryptanalysts trying to break German code during World War II plus it has Benedict Cumberbatch in it. He apparently has a secret about his identity in the movie, so I’m intrigued!
- Best and Most Beautiful Things ~> Yet another one on my watch list that I haven’t watched! I really should look at these lists when I’m trying to find something to watch. : D
YouTube
I’ve been watching way more YouTube than I used to & discovering some wonderful people! I love watching creative people talk about the things they love!
- Teadoddles ~> Well, of course I’m putting my channel first on the list! I have a podcast every Saturday about different crafty things & I try to put up a tutorial about something every Tuesday. Sometimes it goes along with a blog post & sometimes it doesn’t. Here’s the monthly lineup for the Saturday podcasts with links to the most current one ~>
- 1st Saturday ~> Monthly Roundup Podcast
- 2nd Saturday ~> Yarny Goodness Podcast
- 3rd Saturday ~> Fabric Obsessed Podcast
- 4th Saturday ~> DIY & Thrifty Fun Podcast
- 5th Saturday ~> Wildcard Podcast {The first one happens this month!}
- The Cozy Cottage Crochet ~> This is a crochet podcast hosted by Hannah. She is just such a happy person to listen to & she has a few patterns published. I always smile when I watch her podcast!
- The Fold Line ~> I can be guaranteed to find a new sewing pattern I want to make when watching this podcast! They share new patterns, fabrics, notions, etc. for the sewer interested in making their own clothes.
TV
I hardly ever watch TV anymore unless it’s been recorded on the DVR so I can skip the commercials! Then again, I have quite a few things in my queue that still need to be watched. : )
Watched
- Making It! ~> Love, love, love it! This was a competition style show with competitors from all sorts of crafty backgrounds. The best thing about it is that it didn’t feel like most competition style shows do. You could tell these people were true makers because they would even help each other with their projects. I really hope there is another season of this!
- America’s Got Talent ~> I believe this was my favorite season yet! The finale was AMAZING & I loved nearly every single contestant in it. I think everyone in the finale will have a show somewhere eventually because they were all that good!
On My DVR
Both of these shows are from the Syfy network, which is a favorite of mine!
- Killjoys ~> A trio of space bounty hunters traveling the universe, cleaning up messes, & making a few of their own.
- Wynonna Earp ~> A descendant of Wyatt Earp doomed to free her small town of the demons that inhabit it.
Learning
If you haven’t heard, Craftsy Unlimited has changed to Bluprint! They have so much awesome stuff in there & I can’t wait to dig in even more. I can’t link directly to the videos I’m watching/wanna watch, but I can give you a list ~>
- Re:Fashion with Marcy Hariell {or oonaballoona} ~> I already follow her blog because she’s fabulous, so I was delighted to see this series. I’m just getting started on it, but I already love it! As the title says, it’s about doing re-fashions on purchased clothing or patterns to get the look you really want.
- Tru-Up: Behind the Seams with Angela Walters ~> Another one I’m excited to watch! I love her YouTube series, Midnight Quilt Show, & I’m looking forward to learning more about her everyday life.
- Mobile Photography: Perfect Photos in Your Pocket with Jack Davis ~> As a blogger, I take tons of pictures & they’re all with my phone. I’m hoping to improve my photo skills with this class!
Listen
Podcasts are my go to when I’m creating because I can listen & still create! I listen to most podcasts through iTunes, but you can check your favorite podcast provider for them as well. These are some more favorites & a few new ones:
- Stitcher’s Brew Podcast ~> A UK based podcast where two sewing friends talk about, well sewing! They also talk to people in the sewing industry. I have yet to listen to a full episode, but it sounds like my cup of coffee! : D
Read
I’m happy to say I read all the books on my list & started a new one already!
Recently Finished
- The Girl in the Picture by Kerry Barrett ~>
Another one that keeps you guessing! The ending was so sad, but this is a great read.
Next/Reading
- Frozen Past (A Jaxon Jennings’ Detective Mystery Thriller Series, Book 1) by Richard C. Hale ~>
I dug way back in my list to find this one. Apparently I purchased it in 2014 & still haven’t read it!! Another detective looking for a psychopath, which is my favorite kind of book. : )
- The Unremembered Girl: A Novel by Eliza Maxwell ~> I’ve already started this one & it’s interesting so far. It’s one of those books that starts with a snippet from the ending, then goes back to the beginning. A girl living in the woods is taken in by a family with their own set of problems. Sounds intriguing!
Reference
- 1,001 Best Slow-Cooker Recipes: The Only Slow-Cooker Cookbook You’ll Ever Need by Sue Spitler & Linda R. Yoakam ~> I have the 1st edition of this, but I’m linking to the 2nd edition because it’s the only one you can get on Kindle still. This is going to be a great resource for easy fall meals!
- Preservation Pantry: Modern Canning from Root to Top & Stem to Core by Sarah Marshall ~> The illustrations in this book are lovely & the recipes look delicious! I’m looking forward to learning new ways to put up produce. Psst – the Kindle version of this is only 99 cents right now!
- Crochet Stitch Dictionary: 200 Essential Stitches with Step-by-Step Photos by Sarah Hazell ~> I want to do more crochet pattern designing, so I thought this would be a good book to have on hand. The Kindle version is only $1.80, which I have, but I think I may buy the paperback version for this one.
- I got 3 new crochet pattern books in from Leisure Arts this month during their Labor Day sale. Usually I just get the ebooks, but it was really cheaper to get the paperbacks in this case!
- Urban Edge ~> The sweater pattern on the front of this really caught my eye. The stitch & the construction are just way different from what I’ve seen out there for crochet. There are patterns for 13 garments in this book with sizing from small to 3x for most. The paperback is only $5.99 right now!
- Fair Isle Crochet Projects – 8 Traditional Projects using Fair Isle Technique ~> I love the look of these patterns & it’s a technique I have tried yet. There are patterns for 2 hats, 1 cowl, 1 scarf, 2 pillows, & 2 afghans in this book.
- Cozy Shawls & Scarves – Warm up with 7 stylish wrap projects! ~> I really liked most of the patterns in this book, which is not always the case when I see a book like this.
Wow, this is one long list! I hope it gives you plenty to choose from for the fall season. Have a great weekend y’all!
Pin it for later!
