Today I’m starting a new series on the blog – watch, listen, read. It’s all about what I’m watching, listening to, & reading, in case that wasn’t clear by the title! ; ) I plan on doing a list every season, so this one is for Spring 2018. I’ll share some of my favorite podcasts, books, TV shows, series, & movies, as well as some I’m looking forward to.

Watch
Most of my watching occurs online nowadays. If I watch anything on TV, it’s usually recorded on the DVR, so I can skip the commercials! I’d honestly let the satellite cable go if my husband didn’t love it so much. ; )
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime comes with lots of perks beyond free 2 day shipping, including some original series & movies. Here’s a couple I’m interested in:
- The Dangerous Book for Boys inspired by the book by Conn Iggulden ~> I bought this book for my son one year, in hopes that he would get outside & make stuff. I’m sure I was more excited about it than he was! Haha! The series is about a father & son using the book to reconnect. It doesn’t come out until March 30th, but I’m really looking forward to it!
- The Tick based off the comic book series created by cartoonist Ben Edlund ~> I have loved this character since the cartoon series came out when I was a teenager! The Tick is a sort of spoof of comic book superheroes. After the cartoon series, there was a “real life” TV show that came out in 2001, but it didn’t last. I was so excited to see the first season on Amazon & it didn’t disappoint! I laughed every time I watch an episode! A new series came out last month & I can’t wait to watch it. : D I’m such a fan girl that I even have some of my original Tick figures!
Netflix
Doc Martin ~> British TV show all about a big city surgeon developing an aversion to blood & moving to a small village to be a country doctor. He’s quirky like Sheldon from the Big Bang {another favorite of mine!} & the village occupants have quirks of their own. It’s got a little romance, some mystery, & it’s definitely funny!
The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes ~> This is a new series on Netflix & it intrigues me because of my drafting background. Plus, who doesn’t like looking a fabulous homes?
Leap ~> A new cartoon movie produced by Netflix. Set in 1880s France, it’s about two kids escaping an orphanage & heading to Paris to pursue their dreams. Looks like a fun movie, even if I don’t have any kids! ; )
TV
As I said previously, I rarely watch TV any more unless I’ve recorded something on the DVR. When I saw advertisements for The Alienist on TNT I new it was something I wanted to watch. Yes, I love to watch crime dramas! This is based on the books by Caleb Carr, which I’ve never read, but have added to my reading list. The great thing about this show, is that it’s available online as well. As long as it airs on your cable provider of choice!
Listen
Podcasts are my go to when I’m creating because I can listen & still create! I listen to these through iTunes, but you can check your favorite podcast provider for them as well. These are some of my current favorites:
- Reclaimed Audio Podcast ~> Three guys talk about upcycling & making with reclaimed materials. All three have YouTube channels as well & at least two of them have Etsy shops. There’s always some great tips & humor!
- The Moth Podcast ~> This is a collection of live stories told at live Moth events. They are usually based on a theme & some will make you laugh & some will make you cry. It definitely helps prove that everyone has a story to tell!
- Creative Women’s League Podcast by Kate~> Interviews with women entrepreneurs in the creative industries. Always interesting to listen to!
Read
I’ve always loved reading & I have over 200 books in my Kindle list. My book reading has slacked off a bit because I cannot read & create at the same time – trust me, I’ve tried! I posted a book list last summer & planned on reading 2 a week. That didn’t happen! This time I committing to reading at least one a month. If I make it through more, yay for me! : D
Recently Finished
The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow ~> I just finished this book last night! It was very interesting & the quilting references were fun to see. The ending was a bit flat for me, but I still enjoyed the read.
Next
Comes to Pass by Barbara Maria Kelly ~> This book was written by a lady that’s in a quilting Facebook group I’m in. It’s a historical fiction set in the year 1797 about 4 women pushing boundaries under the guise of a sewing group. I can’t wait to read it!
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella ~> I joined a fabric & fiction group that involves exchanging a book & fat quarters. This is the book being passed around & it looks like it will be a fun read. The character reminds of the Amelia Bedelia books I read as a child! I’m second to last in the list, so I’m waiting patiently for my turn. : )
Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life by Shauna Niequist ~> This has been in my collection for a while & I’ve yet to read it. It’s a collection of uplifting stores, so it should be a great read.
Reference
Since I’ll be planting a garden soon, I didn’t want to leave out books in my list I’ll be referring to.
- Grow This! by Derek Fell ~> Sure to be a help when picking what to plant!
- Grow It, Heal It: Natural and Effective Herbal Remedies from Your Garden or Windowsill by Christopher Hobbs ~> Looking forward to adding to my herb garden this year.
- Groundbreaking Food Gardens: 73 Plans That Will Change the Way You Grow Your Garden by Niki Jabbour ~> This even has plans that include chickens! Yes!
I hope you found something fun to watch, listen to, and/or read! : )
Thanks for sharing your list. I love reading too. I have managed to create and “read” with audio books. I rarely buy books anymore except gardening and quilting, but I love to borrow from the library everything before I commit to purchasing.
I’ve thought about doing audio books, so that’s a good idea! I too tend to only buy books related to gardening or quilting. Most of my books are virtual now! : )
I’ve tried so hard with Kindle and google books but I can’t lose myself without a physical book. Same with audio books, and I can’t concentrate on podcasts while I work, I try to put on a show or movie but the same happens – I can’t hear it all, lose the plot, get distracted 😂 so music is better for me there. I just love books, I’m sad to have not kept them all, they’re like friends 😊 I too bought Barbara’s book, it’ll be perfect reading for winter 😊
I like that I can read in the dark with a Kindle – especially in the car! I can’t read a physical book while riding during the day because it makes me car sick. Sometimes podcasts & shows just become background noise for me too when I’m creating. I’ve started reading Barbara’s book & it’s really good so far!
