Time for the 2nd post in my watch, listen, read series! This is where I share all the things I watch & listen to while creating. The reading is for when my hands need a rest! The official first day of summer is on June 21st, but I know many have already started their summer activities. You’ll find things on this list to help you through rainy days stuck inside, long car drives, & maybe some things for campfires under the stars. Let’s check out my list for summer 2018!

I’m including my thoughts on things from my spring 2018 list. Each category will start with a recap of the spring list & then list new things for summer 2018.

Watch

This watch list includes things on Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube, & TV. I rarely go to a movie any more since my son went to college. He was my movie buddy!

Amazon Prime

You can find movies, TV shows, & original content on Amazon Prime.

Watched

  • The Tick based off the comic book series created by cartoonist Ben Edlund ~> The second season didn’t disappoint & I can’t wait for the 3rd!

On My Watch List

  • Lore based on Aaron Mahnke’s podcast ~> I’ve seen this pop up in several emails & it just looked like a creepy horror show, so I passed. I finally looked at it & it’s not that at all! It’s based on a podcast about true stories from history that have spawned some modern day superstitions. That seems intriguing to me, but I may prefer the podcast. You’ll see it on that list too!
  • Wonder Wheel Amazon Prime original movie ~> All about a 1950s love triangle. Sounds like a perfect summer movie!

Past Favorites

  • Grimm inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales ~> I’ve only watched bits and pieces of this on TV & was happy to see seasons 1 thru 6 on Amazon Prime. Now I can see them all in one place!
  • Psych ~> I loved this show when it was on TV! It is a hilarious show & I was sad to see it end. It’s all about a guy pretending to be psychic when he’s really just a great detective. I may have to re-watch it from the beginning!

Netflix

Watched

  • Doc Martin ~> There were 6 seasons on Netflix for this & I watched every last one of them. There are 2 more seasons out there & another in the works for this year & I must see them! The last season I watched ended with so many questions. Aaah! Hopefully more will be added to Netflix soon! Either way, this was a fun series to watch – laughter, love, & drama.
  • Leap ~> A very heartwarming movie with great characters! I will say I had tears in my eyes for some moments. I’m a sucker for a happy ending! : D

On My Watch List

  • NCIS ~> I’m currently deep into season 12 of this show & there are 14 seasons on Netflix, which is only one behind the current season. I used to watch this on a regular basis & fell out of the habit. When I found out the character “Abby” was leaving the show, I needed to find out more!
  • Best and Most Beautiful Things ~> This is a documentary about a young woman’s journey into her 20s. She’s legally blind & has Asperger’s Syndrome.

YouTube

YouTube was not on my last list, but I’ve been watching it more lately & discovering fun new things to try!

  • Grocery Girls Knit ~> I love these ladies! Even though I have yet to learn how to knit, I share their love & enthusiasm for all things yarn. So fun to watch!
  • Lisa Capen Quilts ~> She has some awesome tips on dealing with T-shirt quilts & other great quilting tips & tricks.

TV

Watched

  • The Alienist on TNT based on books by Caleb Carr ~> This show did not disappoint! It was very suspenseful & intriguing – & maybe a little creepy. I’ll be {im}patiently awaiting the next season, because it ended on a cliff hanger – of course!

On My DVR

  • The Big Bang Theory ~> This show always cracks me up! They just ended this season with a wedding for Amy & Sheldon. I’ve yet to see the last episode, so no spoilers please! ; p
  • Code Black ~> Only the 3rd season, but it will be the last! There are 5 episodes waiting for me & I hope it does not end with too many questions – I really don’t like it when they do that! : 0
  • Good Witch ~> This is such a fun show! It’s on the Hallmark channel & I’ve been watching it since the beginning. Apparently there were Good Witch movies before the show! I just missed a marathon at the end of April – poo!
  • America’s Got Talent ~> I usually watch this every summer with my son. I saw the first episode in the que & it made me a little sad! He’s not here to watch it with me, so I may not watch it this year. We shall see!

Learning

  • Learn to Knit series with Caddy Melville Ledbetter on Craftsy ~> I want to learn to knit & I will learn to knit! Hopefully these videos will help me do that!

Listen

Podcasts are my go to when I’m creating because I can listen & still create! I listen to most podcasts through iTunes, but you can check your favorite podcast provider for them as well. These are some more favorites & a few new ones:

  • Lore ~> Yep, I said it would be on this list too! I think this would be great to listen to while roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Much better than ghost stories!
  • This American Life ~> Always interesting to listen to!
  • Seamwork Radio ~> As they put it “stories about designing, making, and wearing your own clothing”. They talk to designers and makers in the field and about what it means to them to make their own clothing.

Read

I’m happy to say I read all the books on my list! There is one that I didn’t finish, but I’ll explain that below!

Recently Finished

Comes to Pass by Barbara Maria Kelly ~> I really enjoyed this book! It ended in a way that makes you want to know more, but not in a way that left you mystified. If that makes any sense! There is another one coming soon called “Lodgings by Grace”. I made sure to follow the author so I don’t miss it! : )
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella ~> This book came in the mail along with 3 fat quarters. It was part of a sort of quilting book club I joined in put on by Bernie over at Needle & Foot. It’s the first physical book I’ve read in a while! I really enjoyed the story & had some laugh out loud moments! Then I shipped it to the next one in line with 3 fat quarters I thought represented the book. Such fun!

Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life by Shauna Niequist ~> I did read some of this book, but each chapter is a different story about things in the author’s life. The stories usually end with her learning something about herself. It’s very uplifting, but not something I can just continuously read. I will read it when I feel the need to be uplifted!

Next/Reading

It Ends with Her by Brianna Labuskes ~> This is all about a female FBI agent chasing a serial killer for years. It’s very interesting so far!

  • The Girl in the Picture by Kerry Barrett ~> This is listed as a “gothic romance” on Amazon, which I find odd. I guess it’s because it has some supernatural occurrences, but I don’t know what that has to do with “gothic”. Anyway, it looks like an interesting read! I think this was a pick from my Amazon Prime monthly free reads.

Reference

Last month it was all about the gardening books & I will still be using them for reference, but I’m looking to learn some things this summer!

  • Put ’em up! by Sherri Brooks Vinton ~> I’ll be digging into this book to prepare for putting up the harvest this summer. This will help me brush up on some things & learn some new techniques. Yay!

  • Herbs & Essential Oils Super Bundle from Ultimate Bundles ~> Had to put this in here! This is only available thru June 4th, 2018, but it has so much information about using essential oils in your everyday life. Something I’m aiming to do! There are even some great freebies, which you can see me talk about in the video below:

I hope you found something fun to watch, listen to, and/or read. Happy Friday y’all! : )

Pin it for later!
